About the Crochet heart keychain pattern
This small crochet heart keychain pattern is a super quick project, that will make a lovely gift not only for Valentine’s but also for Mother’s Day and Teacher’s Day. The heart is made by making two panels, that are made only from 2 rounds.
Then after assembling the two panels together, you add a cute tassel at the bottom of the heart.
The 3d crochet heart pattern is made using the puff stitch. Although this pattern is rated as intermediate level, it can be a great project for a confident beginner!
What Yarn do you use to crochet a keychain?
If you have been following me for a while, you would know that my first choice will always be cotton yarn, because it is much more durable than acrylic yarn, and will live longer.
But is it totally fine to use acrylic for this project if that’s what you have in your yarn stash!
For this keychain heart crochet pattern I used DK (#3) weight yarn, but if you want your keychain heart to be bigger you can use a thicker yarn.

[1 dc, 1 puff, 1 dc] in next dc, [1 puff, 1 dc, 1 puff] in next puff, 1 sc in next ch-2 sp (pic 5),
ss in ss from round 1 (pic 6). (12 puff, 12 dc, 2 sc, 1 ch-1 sp)
Fasten off, tighten up the magic ring.
When you finish the second panel, donโt cut the yarn, and continue to assemble the
2 panels.
Assembling the Heart Panels
Place the two panels on top of the other, with both their right sides facing out (pic 1).
Continue working with the yarn from the second heart panel.
Align the 2 panels, and work ss through the back loops (the loops that are on the Wrong Side of the panels), starting with the first sc of round 2 of the panel that is facing you and the last sc of the round of the panel that is facing the other way (pics 2&3).
Work ss through the back loops in each st until ch-1 sp (marker) (pic 4), ch 2, remove marker and skip the ch-1 sp. Continue working ss through the back loops to the end of the round (to last sc). Ss in ss from round 2 (pic 5).
To attach the keychain: Ch 3, cut the yarn and leave a 10โโ (25.4 cm) tail. Take out the hook from the 3rd chain you made, using a smaller hook pull the chains and yarn tail through the keychain hoop (pics 6&7).
With your 3.5 mm hook, ss into the same ss from round 2. Fasten off and weave in the ends.
Continue to add the tassels.
Adding Tassel
Cut 4 pieces of yarn 10 โโ (25.4 cm).
Fold the 4 pieces strands of yarn in half (pic 1), using your hook pull the center of the yarn through the ch-1 sp of round 1 from the back side to the front (pics 2&3). Remove the hook and pull the ends of the yarn through the small loop (pic 4), tighten and thread the bead through the yarn tails (pic 5). Make another knot to secure the bead pic 6), and cut the yarn tails to be even.
