I designed this ripple blanket crochet pattern for my brother in law’s sister as a gift for her new baby boy. Her name is ‘Yam’ which in Hebrew means Sea, and she named her boy Dori.

I used the ripple crochet pattern to incorporate the sea vibe in the blanket pattern. To create more wave texture, I used cluster stitches and puff stitches that resemble the delicate ripples in the waves when they reach the shore.

The Yarn I Used for My Ripple Blanket Crochet Pattern

For my blanket, I used Mighty Stitch yarn, which is a premium super soft acrylic Worsted (#4) weight yarn. This yarn comes in many beautiful colors and shows the texture of the ripples in the blanket gorgeously!

You can use any type of fiber for your blanket, both cotton and wool will show the texture of the blanket very well.

Make sure to check your gauge before you start, the yarn I used is on the light side of the Worsted weight, so you might need to adjust the beginning chains for the desired width.

Notes

  • Ch 3 at the beginning of the row counts as 1 dc.
  • To change the blanket’s width: Chain a multiple of 34 stitches + 34 + 3 (beginning dc).
  • We use stitch markers to make it easier to find the stitch right after the ch-2 sp, after we worked the puff-4 stitch. This is optional.
  • If you’re finding it’s hard to place the stitch of row 2 in the top of the ch-3, place a stitch marker at the top of the ch 3 at the beginning of each odd row.
  • I didn’t add a border, because the edges were straight enough in my opinion. You can use a border if you’d like, you can work 2 sc in each dc side and 1 sc in each sc side.
  • Please pay attention that before the two 5 dc clusters and right after them, there is a skipped stitch.
