Berry Meadow – Crochet Berry Stitch Blanket Pattern

The Berry Meadow pattern is a crochet Berry stitch blanket pattern that creates a unique texture by combining 2 sizes of Berry stitches.

This pattern is also the first section of the Renewed Rhythms Blanket. You can use this pattern to create a Berry stitch blanket of your own, or follow the instructions for the Renewed Rhythms blanket.

How to change the width of this pattern – this crochet Berry stitch blanket pattern can be easily changed to any width you want to make a bigger blanket (or anything you’d like).

Just follow this stitch multiple: chain a multiple of 4, then add 1 more chain, and another 1 chain for the turning chain. For example, 18=16+1+1.

The Renewed Rhythms Blanket Crochet Along

This pattern is part of the Renewed Rhythms Blanket Crochet-Along. This is the first section of a 7-part blanket crochet pattern.

The Renewed Rhythms crochet blanket is a co-design blanket by Shannon from The Loophole Fox and Agat from Made by Gootie, that can be made either as a baby blanket, lapghan, or a throw.

Skill level – Easy

Materials
– Crochet hook 4.5 mm (I love the Etimo Hooks).
–  Worsted (#4) weight yarn – I used Lion Brand – Pounds of Love yarn – You can use this pattern to make a blanket with a different yarn weight and a suitable hook size.

Color A (Cascade)
Baby Blanket – 71gr/ 160yds/ 146m
Lapghan – 147gr/ 330yds/ 302m
Throw – 204gr/ 458yds/ 419m

Gauge – In pattern: 13 sts x 13 rows will result in a 4×4 in (10×10 cm) square.

Abbreviations (US)

  • ch – chain
  • Berry – yo, insert hook in next st, yo and pull yarn through (3 loops on hook). Yo and pull through 1 loop (3 loops on hook). Yo, insert hook into same st, yo and pull through (5 loops on hook). Yo and pull yarn through all 5 loops.

How to Crochet the Large Berry Stitch (LB):

Yo, insert hook into indicated st, yo and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook).
Yo and pull through 1 loop. (Yo, insert hook into same st and pull up a loop) twice (7 loops on hook), pull yarn through all 7 loops.

Notes

  • Stitch Multiple: multiple of 4 + 1 (+ 1 turning chain, if starting on chains).
  • Ch 1 at the beginning of the row doesn’t count as a stitch.
  • The Berries are worked on the Wrong Side of the blanket.
  • This is the only section that starts and ends on the Right Side.

Berry Meadow Crochet Pattern

If you are not making the Renewed Rhythms Blanket – chain a multiple of 4 + 1 (+1 turning ch, if starting with chains). = after making a multiple of 4, add 1 chains, then add  more chain for turning ch. Ignore the stitch count at the end of the rows.

If you are making the Renewed Rhythms Blanket –
With Color A – chain according to the blanket size you are making:
Baby Blanket size – Chain 104 (or make 103 foundation sc & hdc alternating  and skip Row 1)
Lapghan size – Chain 148 (or make 147 foundation sc & hdc alternating and skip Row 1)
Throw size – Chain 156 (or make 155 foundation sc & hdc alternating and skip Row 1)

Row 1 (RS): Ch 1, 1 hdc in 1st st.
* 1 sc in next st, 1 hdc in next st; Repeat from * to the end of the row, turn.

Repeat rows 1-4 until the height of this section is approximately the height needed for the blanket size you are making. Make sure to finish with either row 1 or 3 (RS).
Baby Blanket – 4 inches (10 cm) tall
Lapghan – 6 inches (15 cm) tall
Throw – 8 inches (20 cm) tall

Change to Color E and continue to work the Transition Rows below.
