Crochet Puff Stitch Pattern – Drifting Puffs
Last Updated on June 3, 2025
The Drifting Puffs is a beautifully textured crochet puff stitch pattern. This pattern uses a slanted puff stitch to create a braided-like crochet stitch, but more lacy than the classic braided puff stitch.
This pattern is the first section of the Springtime Journey Blanket. You can use this pattern to create a puff stitch blanket of your own, or follow the instructions for the Springtime Journey blanket.

The Puff stitch has such a beautiful texture, and I enjoyed playing with it in this blanket pattern. In this pattern, I used the slanted Puff stitch so the puffs will be tilted to the side.
I love using the Puff stitch in my patterns to add texture to the design. This stitch adds so much depth and interest when making crochet blankets, It adds coziness when added to a warm crochet wrap, and delicate textured details when using it in a lightweight shawl!
How to change the width of this pattern – this pattern can be easily changed to any width you want, just follow this stitch multiple: chain a multiple of 3, then add 3 more chains, and then add 2 more chains for the turning chains. For example, 35= 30+3+2.
This beautiful crochet Puff stitch pattern can be used for many projects:
- Blanket, of course
- Table runner
- Shawl – Use a thin yarn for a delicately textured shawl
- Hot pad
- Lacy rectangle crochet bag – use the instructions of this bag to learn how to fold and seam a rectangle into a stunning bag
