Agat This cute and fun crochet stitch will make a beautiful crochet Polka Dot Blanket!
To make it more interesting, I used the Bead stitch instead of the bobble stitch, which is used in many other crochet blankets.

I love the look of crochet polka dot blankets and have wanted to make one for a long time. To create an interesting look, I decided to use the crochet Bead stitch as the “dots” of the blanket.
You can use this pattern to make a big crochet blanket with polka dots or incorporate it in a blanket to add some interest and texture.
I used the Extended Half Double Crochet stitch because I love the look of this stitch, but if you prefer you can replace it with Double Crochet stitch.

The Tranquility Blanket
This pattern is the 7th part of the Tranquility Blanket Crochet-Along. This is a 12-part blanket crochet pattern.
The Tranquility crochet blanket is a collaborative blanket design, that can be made either as a lapghan or a throw. The crochet along will run for 6 weeks starting on October 14th 2024, all the patterns are available for free on the blogs.

Materials
โ Crochet hook 5.0 mm / H (I love the Etimo Hooks).
โย Worsted (#4) weight yarn โ I used Sirdar Country Classic Worsted. – You can use this pattern to make a blanket with a different yarn weight and a suitable hook size.
Total amount of yarn needed for the first part of the Tranquility Blanket:
Throw size: 110gr/240yds (220m)
Lapghan size: 88gr/192yds (176m)
Gauge – In pattern: 14 sts x 7.5 rows = Approximately 4 inches x 4 inches.
Finished Size – If you’re making the Tranquility blanket:
Lapghan: Approximately 5 inches (13 cm), tall and 40 inches (102 cm) wide.
Throw: Approximately 5 inches (13 cm) tall, and 50 inches (127 cm) wide.
Abbreviations (US)
ch โ chain
Ehdc โ extended half double crochet: yo, insert your hook into the indicated st and pull up a loop, yo and pull up a loop through 1 loop only, yo and pull up the yarn through all 3 loop.
dc โ double crochet
Bead โ Work 1 dc in indicated st, then work a Puff stitch around the post of the dc: (yo, insert the hook behind the dc you just worked, yo and pull up a loop) x 5 times working behind the same post.
With 11 loops on your hook, yo and pull through 10 loops, yo and pull the yarn through 2 remaining loops.

STst – stacked single crochet: work 1 single crochet in the first stitch, then work another single crochet into the left leg of the single crochet you just worked.

How to Crochet the Bead Stitch
Work 1 dc in indicated st, then work a Puff stitch around the post of the dc: (yo, insert the hook behind the dc you just worked, yo and pull up a loop) x 5 times working behind the same post.
With 11 loops on your hook, yo and pull through 10 loops, yo and pull the yarn through 2 remaining loops.
How to Crochet the Extended Half Double Crochet (Ehdc)
Yo, insert your hook into the indicated st and pull up a loop (pic 2), yo and pull up a loop through 1 loop only (pic 3), yo and pull up the yarn through all 3 loops (pic 4).
How to Crochet the Stacked Single Crochet Stitch (STsc)
work 1 single crochet in the first st, then work another single crochet into the left leg of the single crochet you just worked.
Notes
- Stitch multiple: this pattern is a stitch multiple of 12 plus 1 (turning ch).
- Chain 1 at the beginning of the row does not count as a stitch.
- STsc is an alternative to the 1st Ehdc, its intention in this pattern is to get a straighter edge. If you prefer, you can replace it with ch3, or ch2 + Ehdc at the beginning of each row.
- Bead stitch counts as 2 stitches (1 dc, puff).
Crochet Polka Dot Blanket Pattern with Bead Stitch
If you are not making the Tranquility Blanket – chain a multiple of 12 plus 1 (turning ch).
If you are making the Tranquility Blanket – Continue working after the transition row, according to the blanket size you are making.
Row 1 (RS):
If you’re not making the Tranquility Blanket – 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook.
If you’re making the Tranquility Blanket – Ch 1, 1 sc in 1st sc.
Continue working 1 sc in each ch to the end of the row, turn. [156 sts Lapghan – 156 sc, (192 sts Throw – 192 sc)]
Row 2 (WS): Stsc, 1 Ehdc in each sc to the end of the row. [156 sts Lapghan – 156 Ehdc, (192 sts Throw – 192 Ehdc)]
Row 3 (RS): STsc in 1st st, 1 Ehdc in next 4 sts, ch 1, sk next st (pic 1), Bead in next st (pics 2&3), sk next st (pics 3&4).
* 1 Ehdc in next 9 sts, ch 1, sk next st (pic 1), Bead in next st (pics 2&3), sk next st (pics 3&4); Repeat from * until 4 sts left. 1 Ehdc in next 4 sts, turn. (156 sts Lapghan – 13 Beads, 13 ch-1 sp, 117 Ehdc)
(192 sts Throw – 16 Beads, 16 ch-1 sp, 144 Ehdc)
Row 4 (WS): STsc in 1st st, 1 Ehdc in each st & ch across (see pics to help identify the different sts), turn. (156 sts Lapghan – 156 Ehdc) (192 sts Throw – 192 Ehdc)
Row 5 (RS): STsc in 1st st, 1 Ehdc in next st.
* 1 Ehdc in next 9 sts, ch 1, sk next st, Bead in next st, sk next st; Repeat from * until 10 sts left, 1 Ehdc in next 10 sts, turn.
(156 sts Lapghan – 12 Beads, 12 ch-1 sp, 120 Ehdc)
(192 sts Throw – 15 Beads, 15 ch-1 sp, 147 Ehdc)
Row 6: Repeat row 4.
Rows 7-9: Repeat rows 3-5.
Row 10: Repeat row 4.
If you’re making the Tranquility Blanket – finish with row 10 and continue working the transition rows.
If you’re not making the Tranquility Blanket – Repeat rows 7-10 until reaching the desired length.
