How Will The Harmony Throw Blanket Crochet Along Work?

A Collaborative Crochet Along (CAL)

First things first, if you never heard of a crochet along (CAL) before, a CAL is an event where different crocheters around the world are working together on a pattern at the same time.

What’s unique about the Harmony Blanket Free Crochet Along, is that it’s a collaborative CAL. The main event will be co-hosted by Shannon and myself, but each pattern stripe was designed by a different designer, to create this beautiful modern crochet blanket pattern!

crochet along blanket featured designers

So How Exactly Does This CAL Work?

The Harmony Crochet Throw Blanket Pattern is a 50×60″ (127×152 cm) size blanket.
The blanket is made out of 12 different stripes that are worked on top of each other (no joining here!), and are separated by 2 transition rows. The unique combination of different stripe patterns creates an eye-catching modern crochet blanket pattern.

There’s no video tutorial for the whole blanket, but there are video & photo tutorials for more complicated stitches.

Please keep in mind that this blanket is an intermediate skill level.

The crochet along will take place over 6 weeks starting Oct. 17th 2022, where each week (on Monday & Thursday) a new part of the pattern will be released. You will find the link to the relevant designer website and code to download the PDF if needed on the main event post.
The pattern will always be FREE on the designer’s website, and the PDF pattern will be available for FREE on the same day for 24 hours (starting at 08:00 am PDT).

Part 1 – Made by Gootie

The free version of this pattern is still available on the Made by Gootie Website. The PDF is no longer available to download for free.

Part 1 of harmony throw blanket cal made by gootie

Important notes for Part 1:

  • Make sure to skip the single crochet after your last V-sc stitch in each repetition.
  • Use the diagram and video tutorial if you are having trouble with the stitch count. The are both free on the Part 1 blog post.

  • Work according to the instructions above.
  • When working Transition Rows after Part 1 – make sure to work the single crochet into each stitch and chain 1 space.

Part 2 – Sunflower Cottage Crochet

The free version of this pattern is still available on the Sunflower Cottage Crochet Website. The PDF is no longer available to download for free.

Part 2 of harmony throw blanket cal sunflower cottage crochet

Important notes for Part 2:

  • Make sure to count your stitches between bobbles on the right side rows. The stitch just before a bobble โ€œhidesโ€ a little bit and itโ€™s very easy to drop stitches because of this.
  • This part has a tendency to roll at the edges. This is nothing to worry about as the addition of the next section alleviates the roll.
  • DO NOT FINISH REPEATS ALL THE WAY TO THE END OF THE ROW. Crocheters MUST follow the pattern and end the repeat when the stated number of stitches remains.
    • The last repeat of the row is NOT COMPLETED fully before the next set of instructions.
    • Not following the pattern EXACTLY when it states โ€œuntil X stitches remainโ€ will throw off the work.

  • Work according to the instructions above.

Part 3 – HanJan Crochet

The free version of this pattern is still available on the HanJan Crochet Website. The PDF is no longer available to download for free.

Important notes for Part 3:

  • If you are having trouble with where to place the cables in Part 3, Shannon has made a photo-tutorial specific to this part of the pattern.
  • This section rolls a bit until the last two rows of the pattern are put on.
  • Tip: Itโ€™s easier to count the posts of the stitches 2 rows below between the FPtrโ€™s than it is to count the tops of stitches and move downward.
  • DO make sure that it looks like youโ€™re skipping 4 stitches behind the 4 FPtrโ€™s of each set.

Important notes for Part 6:

  • Follow Sarahโ€™s recommendation of using the stitch markers. It makes Row 3 significantly easier, especially if you arenโ€™t used to working Front Post stitches two rows below.
  • The repeats of Row 3 are much easier as the pattern has already been established.
    • For reference, the first FPdtr is in the second post of the 4 stitches between the Vโ€™s and the second FPdtr is in the 3rd post.

Important notes for Part 8:

  • Make sure to put the single crochet in the top of the puff stitch, not the chain 1. If you accidentally do it in the chain 1, it can skew the diamond. the second post of the 4 stitches between the Vโ€™s and the second FPdtr is in the 3rd post.

  1. Do you also have the individual yardage for the transitional row part and the border part? Separately… I see the total of 438 for both together.
    Thank you so much

    1. Hi Robin,
      yes ๐Ÿ™‚
For the Transition Rows, the total yarn usage was approximately 110 grams / 240 (220 meters).
For the Border, the total yarn usage was approximately 90 grams / 197 yards (180 meters).

      I hope it helps!

      1. THANK YOU ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Will the pattern include information on how to scale it to a different size? I generally only make baby blankets and knowing starting row is “multiple of X stitches + y” makes it easier for me to adjust. Just curious, thank you! Looking forward to this CAL…it is beautiful!

    1. Hi Stephanie,
The whole blanket is worked over 192 stitches, although each designer used a different multiple of stitches in her design, so it’s kind of hard to scale the blanket to a different size.
My part is the first one and it does mention the stitch multiple, my only suggestion is to use that to make the size you want and then work the rest of the parts according, taking into consideration that the other part will end in the middle of the other repeat pattern.
      I hope it helps!

      1. Thanks so much!

  3. Gootieโ€™s blog says to visit Shannonโ€™s for the free download for today, Oct 17. Shannonโ€™s blog says to visit Gootieโ€™s. There is no clickable link for free off download today. Sad because This actually had my attention for a beautiful seasonal project. But I went back & forth to both blogs about five times, finding nothing.

    1. Hi Jane,

      1. Christine A Eskenazi

Thank you for your beautiful pattern. I am unable to find the Sunflower pattern either on Ravelry or Instagram . Looking forward to next pattern. Thank you

        1. Hi Christine,
You can find the Part 2 of the blanket by Sunflower Cottage Crochet HERE.

The pattern is available for free on the designer’s website.

      2. Just really difficult to get the page containing the pattern … not the introduction of the CAL … BECAUSE the link in the CAL send you back in the same page as the introduction for part 1…

This blanket CAL is gorgeous so if you could solve this problem for all the ones like me who couldn’t pay the eBook because of the financial crisis… I’m finishing my stash … Normally I have 2 big cupboard full of yarn … there’s only 20 % full actually and most of the yarn staying inside is stash…
so hoping for better days to be able to buy some new yarn …
and I hope for new gorgeous CAL & free patterns

        1. I’m sorry for the trouble.
The first 6 parts of the blanket were hosted on Shannon’s blog – The Loophole Fox, so the links are redirecting you to her blog, where you can find the direct links to the free patterns of parts 1-6 when you scroll down:

  4. Hi, it’s 27th today, 1pm UK time, I do not see part 4, is it somewhere else or have I come through to early?

    1. Hi, it is the 27th, but the pattern will be released at 08:00 am PDT (4pm UK time) which in a couple of hours ๐Ÿ™‚

      1. Thanks… I’m in CDT so no wonder I couldn’t find it, too…lol. crocheting patience… happy ๐Ÿ‚ ๐Ÿ๐Ÿฅฐ๐ŸŽƒ๐ŸŒป

  5. Hi, I’m looking for Part 5 pattern of this CAL. Has it been released yet? All websites just sending me back and forth. Will you give me the link to the written instructions for Part 5? Thank you.

    1. Hi Letty,
I’m sorry for the trouble. Part 5 is linked in Shannon’s post.
But I am also adding the link to Part 5 here:
      https://fosbasdesigns.com/crochet-bean-stitch-part-5-of-harmony-throw-blanket/

      1. I have gone to both of these links and still can’t find the pattern for part 5. I’ve been hopping and bopping around for a while tonight to no avail. Any additional help would really be appreciated.

  6. So I’m confused on part 6…how do I end up with 192 stitches in row 3 if I’m skipping more HDC’s than I’m “replacing” with Double triples? (Also, after I yarn over three times, insert around the post, yo again and pull it up, shouldn’t I have 4 loops, not 5? I just assumed that was a typo ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ)

    1. never mind, I figured it out by looking at the stitch diagram!

  7. I’m on the East Coast, not sure if I am too early (8:35 A.M.), can’t seem to locate Section 7 to download. Thx..

  8. Sorry, I re-read the email and see it will be 8:00 A..M. Pacific time which will be 11:00 A.M. my time…apologizes!!

  9. Is there an easy way to make this throw bigger? Like a common stitch multiple among all the parts? Its easy enough to make it longer but I’m curious about wider…

    1. Hi Tara,
There’s no easy way, because each designer used a different multiple stitches in her design, while the whole blanket is worked over 192 stitches.
But you can use the stitch multiple that is mentioned for the first part to make your blanket bigger, taking into consideration that the other parts might end in the middle of the repeat pattern.
      I hope it helps!

  10. I have tried several times to download part 11. I click on the blog that takes me back to the Harmony blanket. SMH Thank you for listening

    1. Hi Chris,
If you are scrolling all the way down on the designer’s blog, you will see the DOWNLOAD button that will lead you to her About page where you can find the download at the bottom of the page.

      1. I have scrolled several times on Monday and again on TUESDAY to no avail. Eventually I found a website for cables and bobbles as well as Georgia Tapestry wall Hanging, I was unlucky to find the tab for download part 11, Very frustrating. Thank you for all of your assistance. Chris

        1. Iโ€™m sorry for the trouble, Chris.
Can you please email me at [email protected] and Iโ€™ll help you with that.

  11. I’m not having any luck getting part 11 pattern. I’ve tried to open the pattern on the designers website but nothing happens. what could I be doing wrong? not a single issue until now.
    thank you
    Julie

    1. Hi Julie,

      I’m sorry for the trouble.
Can you please email me at [email protected] and I’ll help you with that.

  12. I am having an issue with row 11 only getting to 191 stitches start with 4 then multiple of 22 8 times which is 180 plus another 6 and 5 at the end equaling 191 am I missing something?

    1. Hi Erin,
Row 11 of which part are you referring to?

      1. Pattern 11 row 2

        1. Have you tried contacting Erin from Juniper and Oakes who designed this section?
if you’re having trouble contacting her, please let me know and I’ll be happy to help!
          Here’s the section’s post:
          https://www.juniperandoakes.com/blog/georgia-blanket-crochet-pattern

          1. I have tried to reach out through email and have not gotten a response I can tell if Iโ€™m supposed to skip the first double crochet after chaining three and thatโ€™s why Iโ€™m coming up short but counting wise itโ€™s off by a stitch

          2. As for the pattern notes, the ch3 counts as a stitch.
So you will have the ch3 that counts as dc, so you are not working into the first dc. Then work 4 dc in the next 2 stitches.
So you need to add to your calculations the beginning ch3 as a double crochet, which complete it to 192 ๐Ÿ™‚

  13. Thank you so much!
