What Yarn Should You Use for a Crochet Cozy Pattern?
To keep your beverage cold, and your hands warm, you need to use a thick yarn. So for this pattern, I used Worsted (#4) weight yarn. The best yarn for this kind of project would be cotton. It is a strong fiber and will keep the shape and beautiful texture of this pattern.
For these crochet cozies, I used Knit Picks – Dishie yarn by WeCrochet. This is a Worsted (#4) weight yarn, it is 100% Cotton.
More optional yarn for this project would be:
Lily Sugar n’ Cream
Premier Home Cotton Blend
Lion Brand – 24/7 Cotton
About the Crochet Beer Cozy Design
The crochet beer cozies are made in the round from the bottom-up using the Knit stitch Knit Stitch (also known as the Waistcoat stitch) to create a “knit-look” fabric.
There are 2 types of designs for these cozies: one with a “knit-purl” look and the other with a “ribbed” look.
You can also find the regular Knit Stitch tutorial HERE.

Finished size
- 12oz (330ml) regular bottle cozy:
5x5in (6.4×11.4cm) - 16.9oz (500ml) beer can:
2.75ix5in (7×11.4cm)
Notes
- There are 2 cozy patterns, one with a “knit-purl” look and the other with a “ribbed” look. Both can be made for each of the different sizes when you adjust the size of the bottom part.
For the ‘knit-purl’ pattern- keep a multiple of 2 sts, for the ‘ribbed’ pattern- keep a multiple of 4 sts. - The pattern is worked from bottom up, in continuous rounds (no need to slip stitch at the end of the round).
- Place a stitch marker at the first stitch of the round, and move it along as you work up the rounds.
- Make sure you obtain the correct diameter according to the size you make. You can add more rounds or reduce to obtain the correct diameter, and continue working the pattern (the stitch count won’t be relevant in this case).
How to crochet the Knit Stitch (Waistcoat Stitch)
