Half Circle Crochet Rug Pattern: The Paved Diamonds Rug

Last Updated on December 16, 2023

Do you like Filet crochet patterns? This half circle crochet rug pattern creates a modern version of filet crochet.
It’s a great rug pattern for an experienced beginner, and even more advanced crocheters will enjoy it. It is worked up quickly, which makes it a lovely weekend project.
This pattern is actually derived from my Diamonds Doily pattern. I’ve received lots of comments about how lovely this doily will be as a rug, so I turned it into a rug! Just made it half a circle, so you can put it at the bottom of your bed, as an indoor entry mat, or on the bathroom floor.

How to Crochet a Half Circle Rug?

When making a crochet rug, it’s important to use a thick and strong yarn, for this rug I used 2 strands of Worsted weight yarn, but you can also use chunky yarn. I also prefer sewing an anti-slip mat under the rug for safety.

Making this half circle crochet rug pattern is easy and also a great crochet project for beginners.

The main idea behind crocheting half a circle is similar to crocheting a circle. You must keep the same number of increases in each round (if working in a circle) or row (when working in a half-circle).

What yarn should you use for the Crochet Rug Pattern?

Because a crochet rug is an item that needs to be washed up occasionally, and easy to take care of, I suggest using 100% cotton yarn, or at least a blend with a high percentage of cotton.
This pattern is worked with 2 strands held together to create a thick fabric.

For this crochet rug pattern, I used the wonderful Dishie yarn by KnitPicks which was generously provided by WeCrochet. It’s a Worsted weight yarn, it’s so nice to work with! It’s soft but still a bit sturdy, which makes it perfect for home decor, and it’s just slides off your hooks easily without splitting, which is a big bonus when you work with cotton!

If you can’t put your hands on the Dishie yarn, here more great yarn options for this pattern would be:
Lily Sugar n’ Cream
Premier Home Cotton Blend
Knit Picks – Dishie
Lion Brand – 24/7 Cotton

  1. How many skeins did you use?

    1. Hi Sherry, I just realized that I didnโ€™t mention the amount of yarn! I added it to the post, thank you!
I used Dishie by KnitPicks, 6 skeins 600gr/1,042m/1,140yds.

  2. Hi, looks like a great pattern and I’m thinking of doing this. However, (it might be me not seeing), how many skeins did you use? Thank you for the pattern and reply!

    1. Hi Cindi,
      Thank you!
The pattern calls for 600 grams Worsted yarn. If you’re using Dishie yarn, you’ll need 6 skeins (each skein is 100 grams).

  3. I love this delicate design! Beautiful ๐Ÿคฉ

  4. I absolutely adore this Pattern, and canโ€™t wait to make it! I canโ€™t believe youโ€™re giving it away! I had to go buy the doily also! Thank you!

  5. P.S. thank you for the 1/2 off on the doily, also.

  6. Beautiful rug ๐Ÿ˜ I was wandering if it’s possible to make bigger holes so the pattern will be more visible? Thanks in advance ๐Ÿ˜€

    1. Hi Maria, thank you so much!
I don’t have any clever solution other than using a thicker yarn, with a suitable hook. I wouldn’t add more chains inside the pattern, because it will change the half-circle shape of the rug.
      Hope that helps,
      Agat

    1. Thank you, I’m glad you love it!

  9. I can’t find the download button. I got your 8 days off light email but I can’t seem to find the button in the post. The rug is gorgeous though.

    1. oh we must be in a different time zone. It is 10:45 pm on Dec 14th for me right now.

      1. It is still available, you can download it from here: https://madebygootie.com/direct-pdf-download-3/

  10. I just finished making two these rugs for my bathroom. I used the Dishie yarn in jalapeรฑo. I was very pleased with the results. Thank you for the pattern. I have tried multiple times to get the matching pattern for the doily, with no luck. Can you let me know how to access that pattern? Thank you.

    1. Hi Cindy. I’m glad you are pleased with the rug!
