Modern Crochet Bag Pattern – About the Floral Tote Bag Design
This Floral Crochet Tote Bag pattern got its name from the rows of flowers that are integrated in the middle of the bag.
The crochet bag pattern is worked in the round, starting with a perfect crochet circle for the bottom of the bag, then combining a few stitches to create texture between the flower rounds.
To add more fun and interest to the bag, the strap is crocheted separately and then threaded through the gaps between the upper flower round.

Which Yarn Is Best For Crochet Bag?
To make sure your crochet bag will be sturdy enough, it is better to use thick yarn, such as Worsted (#4) or Bulky (#5) weight yarns, especially if you are making a big bag, for example, I used Worsted weight yarn for my Chevron Bucket Bag.
When making a purse, you can use lighter yarns. I used DK (#3) weight yarn for my Pearls of the Sea Clutch.
Which Is Better For Crochet Bags, Cotton or Acrylic Yarn?
Well, my preference would always be cotton, because it’s more durable (will last longer) and doesn’t pill over time like acrylic. Cotton is sturdy and most important much more ecological.
For my Floral crochet tote bag pattern, I used 100% cotton yarn, Knit Picks – Dishie.
Although acrylic is cheaper, it tends to stretch and when making a crochet bag with acrylic yarn, there’s a big probability that the bag won’t keep its form over time.

Notes
- Ch1/ch2 at the beginning of the round do not count as a stitch.
- The first stitch is always worked into the first stitch which you slip stitched to in the last round.
- [โฆ] โ crochet the instructions within brackets into the same indicated stitch.
- (โฆ) โ crochet the instructions within brackets as many times as directed.
- Each [1puff, ch2, 1puff, ch2, 1puff] is referred to as a flower in the stitch count.
- How to change the size of your bag: The bagโs sides are worked over a multiple of 6 stitches. To change the size of the bag, you can change the size of the base by keep increasing or work less rounds of the base (since the first round is 6 sc, every round is a multiple of 6).
- The pattern suggests crocheting the strap for the bag, but you can either use a 50โ/127cm metal strap and follow the instructions for how to attach it to the bag.
- When changing colors: at the last stitch of the round, before changing color, start the stitch as normal, when you pull the yarn through the loop to finish the stitch, wrap the new color around the hook and pull through.
