Making blankets has something meditative to it, I love seeing the progress when I’m making a big item and just getting into the rhythm of crocheting (and I’m saying it as a slow crocheter).
I also love gifting crocheted blankets, it feels great gifting a handmade item, knowing it will be used by the recipient for a long time.
My Favorite Yarn For Making Blankets
Just before we are diving in, I wanted to share some of my favorite yarns to use when I’m making a blanket.
- King Cole Cottonsoft DK – I made my daughter a super soft summer blanket with this yarn.
- Knit Picks CotLin – This is a 70% Pima cotton and 30% Linen yarn, which creates soft and not too heavy blankets. I used it in my Mitered Tulips Blanket.
- Knit Picks Comfy – The Comfy yarn is a blend of 75% Pima cotton and 25% acrylic. The higher percentage of cotton gives the fiber a very soft feeling, and it’s still very durable. I use this yarn in my Across the Way Blanket.
- Sirdar Country Classic Worsted – 50% Merino and 50% acrylic, create a soft yarn with a lovely stitch definition. blocking can certainly improve the overall look and uniformity of your project, whether it’s necessary depends on several factors. Firstly, if your granny squares are relatively consistent in size and shape, blocking may not be essential.
- Knit Picks Swish – The swish yarn is a light worsted yarn, it consists of 100% Fine Superwash Merino Wool, and it is so so soft! I used it in my Diamond Hexagon Blanket.
