The Mitered Tulips Blanket is a fun and beautiful baby blanket, it uses the crochet mitered square method with puff stitches to create tulip-like flowers.
The idea for this mitered crochet baby blanket came to me when my sister-in-law had a baby, right after I designed the Mitered Tulips Square for the Bouquet of Flowers CAL (link coming soon!). I was so happy with how this blanket turned out, and I hope you will enjoy making it!

Making a mitered crochet baby blanket is easier than it looks. A little similar to the corner to corner method, but without the decreasing part, you just continue increasing the corner.
Similar to any crochet square, you can make a crochet blanket in 2 ways.
The first way is just making one big square, using the mitered method. You just continue increasing the mitered square as big as you’d like.
The second way is to make small squares and join them together to create a blanket in any size and shape (square or rectangle).

About the Mitered Tulips Blanket Design
Using the mitered square method, the blanket is crocheted from a beginning square and then is worked on 2 sides of the square while increasing the corner between them.
To add interest and texture, we are making rows of beautiful tulips-like stitches.
I alternated the colors on every other tulip row (see colors table below), you can play with it as you would like (or use your scrap yarn for the color rows!).
What Yarn Should You Use for a Mitered Crochet Baby Blanket?
In general, when making a baby blanket, it is recommended not to use any wool (or animal based yarn) because babies are more sensitive and you still don’t know if they have any allergies.
Whenever I can, I prefer using natural fibers, so for this blanket I used CotLin yarn by Knit Picks, which is a DK (#3) weight yarn. I really like using this yarn, it’s made of 70% tanguis cotton and 30% linen, so it’s strong, but still very soft.
Using soft acrylic yarn is also a good option, and will result a beautiful blanket.

How to Crochet the Tulips Mitered Blanket in Other Sizes?
It’s very easy actually, just continue working the main section and increase the square as much as you’d like.
Want to make it into a rectangle? When reaching the desired width, continue working only on one side of the square without the corner until you reach the desired length.

Notes
- Ch3 at the beginning of the row counts as 1dc.
- The blanket is worked from one corner to corner (similar to the C2C method, but without the decreasing), you can make it as big as youโd like.
- Place a marker in the corner stitch (tr) and move marker along the rows to make it easier to find the corner.
- This blanket needs blocking to obtain its final shape, donโt skip this step.
Stitch counting:
- Each tulip row adds a total of 8 tulips (4 at each side).
- Each dc row adds a total of 4 dc (2 at each side). When working a dc row after a tulip row, you add a total of 8 dc in compared to the last dc row.
Changing color:
-
- Every other tulip row you change a color.
- The table indicates which color is used in which row/section of the blanket.
- When changing color: at the last stitch of the roe, before changing color, start the stitch as normal, when you pull the yarn through the 2 loops to finish the stitch, wrap the new color around the hook and pull through.

Iโm confused by row 8, can you break it down in another way please?!๐๐ป thank you ๐
Hi Kym,
I added a diagram to the post, right before the written instructions (requires a simple email sign up), I hope it will help.
But basically this row is alternating ch 1 and double crochet that are worked in the front loop, until you reach 1 dc before the corner- tr st, then ch 1 and work a [dc, ch1, tr, ch1, dc] in the front loop of the corner treble st. Then continue alternating the ch1 and front loop dc on the other side.
