It’s that time of the year again, the weather is getting cooler and the holidays are getting closer. This means it is time for the second annual free blanket CAL pattern, the Serenity Throw Blanket Crochet Along!
The Serenity Blanket is a striped crochet blanket pattern, that was designed by 12 different crochet designers. Each strip of the blanket has a different texture, when finishing the blanket you will have a unique crochet blanket pattern!
In this CAL which I am co-hosting with my friend Shannon from The Loophole Fox, we will crochet together this multi-stitch crochet blanket pattern that is made out of 12 different stripes, each using different techniques and unique stitches.

How Will The Serenity Throw Blanket Crochet Along Work?
A Collaborative Crochet Along (CAL)
If you never heard of a crochet along (CAL) before, a CAL is an event where different crocheters around the world are working together on a pattern at the same time.
What’s unique about the Serenity Blanket Free Crochet Along, is that it’s a collaborative CAL. Same as was the Harmony Throw Blanket Crochet Along that we hosted last year.
The main event will be co-hosted by Shannon and myself, but each pattern stripe was designed by a different designer, to create this beautiful crochet blanket with stripes!
So How Exactly Does This Blanket Crochet-Along Work?
The Serenity Crochet Throw Blanket Pattern is a 50×60″ (127×152 cm) size blanket.
The blanket is made out of 12 different stripes that are worked on top of each other (no joining here!), and are separated by 2 transition rows. The unique combination of different stripe patterns creates an eye-catching unique crochet blanket pattern.
There’s no video tutorial for the whole blanket, but there are video tutorials for some of the parts & photo tutorials for more complicated stitches.
Please keep in mind that this blanket is an intermediate skill level.
The crochet along will take place over 6 weeks starting Oct. 16th 2023, where each week (on Monday & Thursday) a new part of the pattern will be released. You will find the link to the relevant designer website and code to download the PDF if needed on the main event post.
The pattern will always be FREE on the designer’s website, and the PDF pattern will be available for download for FREE for 48 hours (starting at 08:00 am PDT).

The Serenity Throw Blanket eBook
We know not everyone likes to jump from one website to another or prefers to have their patterns without the ads.
We have put together an eBook for the Serenity Blanket which gathers all the 12 different parts of the blanket, including the transition rows and full border instructions.

Materials Will You Need For this Blanket CAL Pattern
For our blanket, we used Sirdar Country Classic Worsted, which was generously provided to us by Helen from the Caterpillar yarn. The Sirdar Country Classic consists of 50% acrylic and 50% Merino wool which makes it nice and soft, with a great stitch definition.ย
We also chose to use 5 different colors (4 for the different parts and 1 for the transition rows and border), I will lay out both the amount needed for each color if you use 5 different colors, and both amount used for each different part (scroll down for each part), if you want to plan your colors differently.
Materials needed for the Serenity Blanket
โ 5.0 mm / H crochet hook
โ 23 Stitch markers (you will need all of them for part 6)
โย Worsted (#4) weight yarn (we used Sirdar Country Classic Worsted)
Total amount of yarn needed 2,120 grams / 4,635 yards / 4,240 meters
- Color A – Golden (Parts 1, 5, 9): 490gr / 1,070yds / 980m – 5 skeins
- Color B – Moss (Parts 2, 6, 10): 420gr / 920yds / 840m – 5 skeins
- Color C – Clotted Cream (Parts 3, 7, 11): 490gr / 1,070yds / 980m – 5 skeins
- Color D – Oyster (Parts 4, 8, 12): 460gr / 1,005yds / 920m – 5 skeins
- Color E – White (Transition rows & border):ย 260gr / 570yds / 520m – 3 skeins

Color Planning For Your Serenity Throw – a Striped Crochet Blanket Pattern
The beautiful thing about this blanket pattern is, that no matter what color combination you choose, or how many colors, you will end up with a contemporary crochet blanket!
So if you want to use a different number of colors, you can calculate how much yarn you need for each part according to this list below, keep in mind that this is approximate yardage.

Skill Level – The skill level for this crochet blanket ranges from Confident Advanced Beginner to Intermediate.
Materials
โ 5.0 mm / H crochet hook (I like this hook).
โ Worsted (#4) weight yarn, we used Sirdar Country Classic Worsted for our blanket.ย

Notes
- The blanket is crocheted over 192 When finishing each part, make sure you have the correct number of stitches.
- Each part is separated by 2 transition rows (please see the instructions below).
- Always finish the last stitch of the part you are working on with the transition row color.
- Make sure to finish the last stitch of the second transition row with the color youโve chosen for the next part.

- Part 4 is very squishy and will pull in at the sides. Placing the other parts and working a border fixed this, so crocheterโs shouldnโt worry about it pulling on the sides.

Important notes for Part 5:
- Stitch Count on Row 1 is more than 192 but comes back down to 192 in Row 2. No need to worry as long as the stitch count matches what Allison has listed.
- Pay attention to stitch placement on Row 2 and make sure to put the single crochets into the chain 1 spaces as Allison instructs.

- The top of the double crochet 2 rows below can be a little hidden in the dcโs from the previous rows. Push the double crochet from the previous row out of the way.
- When you are placing the double crochet 2 rows below, the chain 2 from the previous row will go over your hook. Essentially, crochet over the chains.

Important notes for Part 8:
- Rows 3, 5 and 7 – The repeat has โAlpine, DCโ. The repeat will END on an โAlpineโ (FPdc), not on a dc. This is shown in Erinโs video and she states you can do a dc at the end instead if you donโt like the FPdc at the end of the row.
We think that ending Row 3 and all repeats of Row 3 as a dc instead of FPdc creates a cleaner edge. - This section WILL roll. Itโs the nature of the Alpine stitch. The rolling is fixed after putting the next part on.

Important notes for Part 10:
- example โ[*FPtc into Row 3, dc,* rep from * to * 4 times, dc 2]โ You will work the instructions between ** a TOTAL of 5 times.
- Pay attention to when the designer says to repeat instructions until a certain number of stitches remain in the row. This instruction supersedes the repeat and the repeat will not be completely finished when you have the instructed amount of stitches remaining.

And since we can’t put the whole blanket on Ravelry, because it was designed by different designers, I will make a listing of my first part of the blanket on Ravelry, and you could upload your project there.
So excited for this, I love all the texture of this blanket. I have been sitting on yarn to make a blanket with, but it’s 5 weight, will there be notes on adjusting? possibly for size also?
Hey Tina,
each part mentions the stitch multiple, although it’s not the same for all the parts.
You can start by modifying the first part according for its stitch multiple, and then tweak the other parts.
As for the length, some parts wouldn’t look good if you make them shorter. Taking into account each part is 5″, you can choose your favorite parts and make less parts.
