How to Crochet a Baby Blanket?

You can crochet a baby blanket in several ways.

First, you need to choose your technique, you can crochet a baby blanket from the center out, from corner to corner (C2C), as a mitered crochet square, or in rows back and forth. My favorite techniques are the mitered and C2C, since you don’t need to start with a long starting chain.

Next, look for baby blanket crochet patterns and choose the one you like. Once you choose your pattern, make sure to purchase yarn according to the amount stated in the pattern.

What Is The Best Stitch For a Crochet Baby Blanket?

This is a personal preference, but here are my favorite stitches to make a baby blanket.

1)ย Moss Stitch, – makes a beautiful, not too dense fabric with kind of a knit-look effect. You can also work the Moss stitch from corner to corner, and from the middle out.

2) Tree Branch Stitch – this is a perfect stitch to blanket! It makes a solid fabric, which is still soft.

3) Iris Stitch in a Square – Creates a modern version of a granny square.

4) Suzette Stitch – This is a great stitch for beginners, which makes a beautiful texture.

5)ย Corner to Corner Wattle Stitch – a different corner to corner stitch.ย

How Many Skeins Do I Need For a Baby Blanket?

It depends on the pattern you choose, and the stitch that is used in this pattern.

Most simple baby blanket crochet patterns will use 4-5 skeins of yarn, but if the pattern uses more complicated stitches, or stitches that take more yarn, like puff stitches or bobbles, it might require more yarn.

Make sure to read the pattern instructions and amount of yarn needed for your blanket, before starting your blanket.
