When I designed this crochet leaf shawl pattern, I wanted to create an eye-catching rectangle shawl with a super lacy edge, in a similar concept to my Floral Drift Shawl. Similar to the Floral Drift Shawl, I started with a basic shawl body of double crochet rows, and then added a crochet lace part.

The fun thing about this pattern is that you can adjust the width and height of each part as you want. Look for the stitch multiple in the pattern note and adjust the shawl as you’d like. Then you can work the double crochet body to the size you want, and repeat the Leaves lace part to the size you want.

To change the width of your shawl: chain a multiple of 32, then add 23 ch’s, and another 2 for turning ch’s.

What Yarn Should You Use for Your Lacy Crochet Shawl Pattern

For my crochet shawl, I used Rosarios 4 – Caravela yarn, this is a 100% bamboo yarn, it has a beautiful shine and drape, and it’s very soft. And although I really wanted to love this yarn, unfortunately, it’s super splitty when crocheted with (I don’t think it will split as much when knitted with, though). I had a pretty hard time working with it, so I can’t recommend this yarn.

You can use any type of fiber you want, but since this is a lacy crochet shawl pattern, the stitch definition is crucial, so this shawl will benefit the most from natural fibers, such as cotton or bamboo. These fibers have lovely stitch definition and will show the leaf design beautifully after blocking.
Here are some good options for yarn for this shawl:
Knit Picks – Comfy Fingering
Knit Picks – Samia

How to crochet the Stacked Single Crochet (STsc):

This stitch is an alternative to extended half double crochet, its intention in this pattern is to replace the ch3, or ch2 + dc at the beginning of the pattern and get a straighter edge.
At the beginning of the row, do not chain, keep your yarn behind your hook and work 1 single crochet in the first stitch, then work another single crochet into the left leg of the single crochet you just worked.

Pattern Notes

  • Stitch Multiple: (multiple of 32) + 23 + 2 (turning ch’s) = chain a multiple of 32, then add 23 ch, and another 2 for turning ch’s.
  • For the shawl body section – STsc is an alternative to the 1st double crochet, its intention in this pattern is to get a straighter edge. If you prefer, you can replace it with ch3, or ch2 + dc at the beginning of each row instead of STsc.
  • For the shawl lace section – Ch 1 and ch 2 at the beginning of the row don’t count as a stitch.
  • You can use different colors for the body and flower sections. See yarn quantity for each section in the materials above.
