Diagonal Knit Look Crochet Stitch Tutorial
The Diagonal Knit Look Crochet Stitch creates a beautiful crochet stitch that looks like knitting. Using only single crochet stitches, this crochet stitch is very easy.
The diagonal lines that this stitch creates make it look like a braided crochet stitch, with a beautiful texture.

The Diagonal Knit-Look crochet stitch is based on the “classic” crochet Knit stitch, but is made by working 2 single crochet stitches into the V part of one single crochet stitch.
If you’re new to the crochet knit stitch, you can learn how to crochet the Knit stitch in this tutorial. And if you are looking for a pattern that uses this beautiful stitch, try the Knit-Look crochet can cozies!
Because we are working into the V part of the stitch and not into the top 2 loops, my recommendation is to use a bigger hook than the yarn suggested, especially if you are a tight crocheter like me.
You can work this stitch with a solid colored yarn, or 2 colors – alternating each round. Or even use a variegated yarn as you can see in the photo below! For this sample, I used Alize Diva Batik yarn – color 3307.

Notes
- Use a bigger hook than recommended! And try to work the stitches loose, to make it easier to work into the V part of the stitch.
- This stitch pattern is worked in the round.
- This pattern is a stitch multiple of an even number of chains.

Diagonal Knit Look Crochet Stitch
Chain an even number of chains, then slip stitch to the first chain to join.

Round 1: Ch 1 (doesn’t count as a st), 1 sc in same ch you slipped stitched into, 1 sc in each ch around, don’t join at the end of the round.

Round 2: Skip the first sc, work 2 sc in the next sc (pic 1) – place a stitch marker in the second sc you made to mark the first sc you will work into in the next round (optional – pic 2).
* Skip next sc (pic 3), 2 sc in next sc (pic 4); Repeat from * until the end of the round, don’t join.

Round 3: Skip the first sc (pic 1), remove marker, and work 2 sc into the V part of the seond sc of the round (instead of into the top of the sc – pics 2-4) – place stitch marker in the second sc you made (pic 5).
* Skip next sc, work 2 sc into the V part of the next sc (pic 6); Repeat from * until the end of the round, don’t join.
Repeat round 3.
When you work the last round, slip stitch into the first sc of the round.
