Flower Granny Square Pattern – The Blossom Granny Square

Last Updated on October 7, 2024

The Blossom Granny Square is a beautiful flower granny square pattern. I created this design when Debbie from MadameStitch invited me to join her Granny Stitch Sampler Crochet-Along (scroll down for more details).

This flower-themed crochet square will be beautiful when made in 3 colors or in a solid color as shown below. The lovely texture will be showing either way.

The Blossom Flower Granny Square inspiration came from my Daisy Granny Square pattern.

I wanted to make a big floral granny square, so I decided to incorporate the center flower and work a solid granny with a few rounds of the classic granny stitch around it. Then you add a round of a half daisy flower, just to add some more texture.

You can make this granny square pattern as part of the crochet-along, or make a granny square blanket made only with this square.

Colors and Yarn

For my square, I used Knit Picks Mighty Stitch, an acrylic Worsted (#4) yarn that comes in many beautiful colors. You can also use DK (#3) weight yarn if you want your square to be smaller.

You can see in the photos below that in the left square I used the off-white color to make the center of the flower and worked the flower petals and the round with the half flowers in pink, and the rest of the square is in sage. You can play with the colors as you’d like, if you’re making a big blanket you can use different colors for the petals rounds and keep the same color around (color C).

And can also use a solid color and show up the beautiful texture of this flower granny square!

  • Ch 5 at the beginning of the row counts as 1 dc + ch2.
  • How to change colors: At the last stitch of the round, before changing color, start the stitch as normal, when you pull the yarn through the loop to finish the stitch, wrap the new color around the hook and pull through.
