Wattle Stitch Blanket Pattern
The Wattle stitch is a perfect stitch to make a crochet blanket. The stitch creates a textured fabric without holes, which is still soft enough and nice as a blanket.
The Wattle crochet stitch can be worked with any yarn weight, it will look good with both a thin and a thick yarn.
I used the Wattle stitch to make a crochet blanket for my daughter with DK (#3) weight yarn, which she still uses. The combination of a cotton DK yarn with this stitch makes it a perfect blanket for the Fall.

Crochet Wattle Stitch C2C
Did you know that you can learn how to crochet the Wattle stitch from corner to corner?
After learning the basic C2C method and the C2C Moss stitch, I decided to try and take different crochet stitches and turn them into a corner-to-corner method. The Wattle stitch was the first stitch I turned into this method, and I loved the texture of the stitch in diagonal!
The C2C wattle stitch will make a beautiful washcloth and blanket, and the best thing is, that you can just start and decide the size as you go!

Skill level โ Easy
Materials I Used in This Tutorial
โ Crochet hook 4.0 mm / G (I like this hook)
โ DK (#3) yarn
Abbreviations (US)
ch – chain
dc – double crochet
hdc – half double crochet
sc – single crochet
sp – space
Notes
- The pattern is a multiple of 3, you can change the width of the blanket by keeping a multiple of 3 chains.
- Most of the Wattle stitch patterns finish the row with a single crochet stitch. I found that making a half double crochet instead creates a better tension.
How to Crochet the Wattle Stitch Step-by-Step
Make a multiple of 3 chains.
Row 1:
[1 sc, ch 1, 1 dc] in 3rd ch from hook, skip 2 ch’s.
* [1 sc, ch 1, 1 dc] in next ch, skip 2 ch’s; repeat from * to last ch, 1 hdc in next ch, turn.
Row 2:
ch 1 (counts as 1 sc), skip 1st hdc.
* skip next dc, [1 sc, ch 1, 1 dc] in next ch-1, skip next sc; repeat from * to beginning ch-2, 1 hdc in top of ch-2, turn.
Row 3:
ch 1 (counts as 1 sc), skip 1st hdc.
* skip next dc, [1 sc, ch 1, 1 dc] in next ch-1 sp, skip next sc; repeat from * to last ch-1, 1 hdc in ch-1, turn.
Repeat row 3.
