The Leaf Spike stitch crochet pattern is a combination of the Spike stitch and a cluster Puff stitch. We first work a few rows of double crochet and create the spaces that we will work the leaves into. Then, in the row of the Leaf-Spike stitch, we work a Puff stitch cluster, where each puff is worked into the spaces we created 2 rows and 3 rows below as spike stitches.
This leaf crochet stitch is perfect to add Autumn-vibes to any project, you can use it in a blanket, garment, pillow covers, etc.

The Rustling Blanket crochet blanket is a co-design blanket by Hortense from Knitting with Chopsticks and Agat from Made by Gootie. The square crochet blanket is worked from the middle out, working 6 autumn-inspired sections.
This is a free crochet along blanket that is hosted from Sept 1st – Oct 6th, 2025. The pattern is free to view on the designers’ blogs.

How to crochet the Stacked Single Crochet (STsc):
This stitch is an alternative to double crochet, its intention in this pattern is to replace the ch3, or ch2 + dc at the beginning of the pattern and get a straighter edge.
At the beginning of the row, do not chain, keep your yarn behind your hook and work 1 single crochet in the first stitch, then work another single crochet into the left leg of the single crochet you just worked.

How to crochet the Spike-Leaf stitch
Work the stitch in 3 ch-1 sps you worked in the previous rounds:
- (Yo, insert hook into ch-1 sp 1 st to the right of the current st and 2 rounds below, yo and pull up a loop to the height of your sc round – pics 1-2) 3 times – 7 loops on the hook (pic 3).
- (Yo, insert hook into ch-1 sp 1 st to the left of the current st and 3 rounds below (pic 3), yo and pull up a loop to the height of your sc round) 3 times – 13 loops on the hook (pic 4).
- (Yo, insert hook into ch-1 sp 4 sts to the left of the current st and 2 rounds below (pic 4), yo and pull up a loop to the height of your sc round) 3 times – 19 loops on the hook (pic 5).
- Yo, secure the loops with your fingers (pic 5) and pull the yarn through all 19 loops (pic 6), ch 1 (pic 7).

Notes
The pattern requires a stitch multiple of 15 sts = make a multiple of 15 chains and add 2 chains as turning chains.
- STsc is an alternative to the 1st double crochet, its intention in this pattern is to get a straighter edge. If you prefer, you can replace it with ch3, or ch2 + dc at the beginning of each row.

I just managed to finish part 6 of the rustling leaves blanket. I purchased the ebook back in August 2025. Order # 17904338. Was there an upgrade that I missed? My pattern ends with changing yarn to the transition rows. But no instructions. Did anyone suggest adding a border?
Thanks, Elaine
Hi Elaine,
Sorry about that, that must have been left by mistake.
There’s no need to work transition rounds after the last section. This section is also replaces a border.
