The Waves of Grain pattern features a beautiful “Wheat-like” pattern, using V stitch and V-Puff stitch.
For the Rustling Leaves crochet along Blanket, I adjusted the pattern to work around as a square and used V double crochet stitches instead of V half double crochet stitches.
If you like to explore this beautiful stitch in more constructions, there’s also a Granny Square and a corner to corner versions of the Waves of Grain stitch.

The Rustling Leaves Blanket
This pattern is part of the Rustling Leaves Blanket Crochet-Along. This is the first part of a 6-part blanket crochet pattern.
The Rustling Blanket crochet blanket is a co-design blanket by Hortense from Knitting with Chopsticks and Agat from Made by Gootie. The square crochet blanket is worked from the middle out, working 6 autumn-inspired sections.
This is a free crochet along blanket that is hosted from Sept 1st – Oct 6th, 2025. The pattern is free to view on the designers’ blogs.

How to crochet the Stacked Single Crochet (STsc):
This stitch is an alternative to double crochet, its intention in this pattern is to replace the ch3, or ch2 + dc at the beginning of the pattern and get a straighter edge.
At the beginning of the row, do not chain, keep your yarn behind your hook and work 1 single crochet in the first stitch, then work another single crochet into the left leg of the single crochet you just worked.

How to crochet the Puff Stitch
[yo, insert hook into indicated st, yo and pull up a loop] x 3 times working into same st, yo and pull through all 7 loops on hook.

Notes
- The pattern is turned at the end of each round.
- Ch 1 and ch 2 at the beginning of the row don’t count as a stitch.
- STsc is an alternative to the 1st double crochet, its intention in this pattern is to get a straighter edge. If you prefer, you can replace it with ch3, or ch2 + dc at the beginning of each row.
In rounds 2 & 4 you can work ch 4 (=1 dc + ch 1) instead of STsc and ch 1.
