I’ve been into designing baskets in the last few months, I just love how practical they are!
Especially a crochet nesting basket, it’s the perfect size to hold all the things that are scattered around on my desk or my current WIP.
This is a perfect crochet project and a beautiful item to add to your home decor.

About the Lobelia Crochet Nesting Basket Pattern
The Lobelia Nesting basket is a modern crochet basket.
The Basket’s body has a unique texture because of a combination of the spider stitch and the spike single crochet stitch.
The body pattern is worked alternating these two stitches, where each stitch is worked on the top of the same stitch to obtain the lines from the bottom to the top.
The Lobelia Basket Set
The Crochet Nesting Basket pattern is part of the Lobelia Basket Pattern Set.
You can also find the Lobelia Plant Pot Holder Basket, which is a smaller basket with handles. It’s a perfect size to hold a plant pot, but can be used to hold whatever you want!
Both baskets are great crochet storage baskets and can be modified to any size you want.
You can get both baskets’ PDF patterns for only $6.5 through Ravelry!

Which Yarn Is Best For Crochet Baskets?
When crocheting a storage basket, it’s recommended to use 100% cotton yarn. Cotton yarn is more sturdy, have beautiful stitch definition and you can easily wash it in the washing machine.
For this crochet nesting basket, I used Knit Picks – Dishie yarn which was very generously provided to me by WeCrochet.
Dishie yarn is one of my favorite cotton yarns to use for crochet home decor items. it’s soft, yet very sturdy and has great stitch definition, and as a bonus comes in many beautiful colors!
I used this yarn in the Paved Diamonds Rug, Suzette Hanging Basket, Double Hanging Basket, and Knit-Look Can Cozies.

Notes
- Ch1 at the beginning of the round does not count as a stitch. The first stitch is always worked into the first stitch which you slip stitched to in the last round.
- The base of the basket is worked with a 5 mm hook, and the sides are worked with a 6 mm hook.
- [โฆ] – crochet the instructions within brackets into the same indicated stitch.
- (โฆ) – crochet the instructions within brackets as many times as directed.
- How to change the size of your basket: The basketโs body is worked over a multiple of 4 stitches. To change the size of the basket, you can change the size of the base and make sure you have multiple of 4 stitches when you start working the body.
- The basketโs body is worked with the Spider stitch (V-sc worked into each ch-1 sp), separated by Spike sc stitches.
