I just can’t get enough of making crochet baskets!
With my journey in designing crochet baskets, I decided to create a basket as a crochet plant pot holder.
This crochet plant cozy is perfect as a gift for housewarming, and to add some chic to your home decor.
Although this basket is intended as a plant pot holder, it can be used as a regular crochet basket.

The Lobelia Basket Set
The Crochet Plant Pot Holder Basket pattern is part of the Lobelia Basket Pattern Set.
You can also find the Lobelia Nesting Basket, which is a bit bigger basket without handles. It’s the perfect size to hold all the things that are scattered around on my desk or my current WIP!
Both baskets are great crochet storage baskets and can be modified to any size you want.
You can get both baskets’ PDF patterns for only $6.5 through Ravelry!

How Do You Cover a Plant Pot in Crochet?
Before you start making a planter cover, I suggest choosing a plant so you know the size of your pot. I mainly grow succulents, because it’s easier to take care of them and my cats don’t eat them.
Once you have your pot, you need to make a perfectly round crochet circle in the diameter of your pot, and then stop increasing and continue working the body of the cover.
In most plant pot holder patterns, you will find instructions on how to change the size of the basket’s bottom to fit your plant pot.
What Type of Yarn Is Best For Crochet Plant Covers?
When I’m making home decor items that I will use a lot, I always prefer to use 100% cotton yarn. Cotton yarn is more sturdy, and it’s easy to clean if it gets wet or dirty from the soil.
For this crochet pot cozy, I used Knit Picks – Dishie yarn which was very generously provided to me by WeCrochet.
Dishie yarn is one of my favorite cotton yarns to use for crochet home decor items. it’s soft, yet very sturdy and has great stitch definition, and as a bonus comes in many beautiful colors!
I used this yarn in the Paved Diamonds Rug, Suzette Hanging Basket, Double Hanging Basket, and Knit-Look Can Cozies.

The pot cover has a look of a modern crochet basket which achieves with a combination of the Spider stitch and the Single crochet stitch.
While the lower and upper parts of the body are worked with simple single crochet in the back loop.

I Love this pattern, but I cannot find the part where you make the handles for this particular basket. Is that only on the Ravelry pattern? Thank you for this lovely pattern!!
Hi Jacqueline, I’m glad you love the pattern!
The handles instruction are also in this post, they are made in the last two rounds of the basket: rounds 24-25.
Thank you! So versatile! Chag Sameach!!!
