Iris Blanket – Big Granny Square Blanket Pattern
Last Updated on January 1, 2026
The Iris Square Blanket is a big granny square blanket that uses the Granny Iris Stitch instead of the classic crochet Granny Stitch. Using the Iris stitch in a square creates a beautiful and modern granny square blanket.
This crochet blanket pattern is perfect for beginners, and will make a quick and easy crochet baby blanket!

The Iris crochet blanket is made using my Iris in a Square pattern. This beautiful crochet square is a modern version of a granny square. Instead of working the classic Granny Square stitch, we are working the Iris stitch, which is a double V stitch.
The great thing about this pattern, is that it’s super easy and repetitive, you just repeat 2 rounds to make your square as big as you’d like, until you have a large granny square blanket!
This is the perfect crochet project to take on the go, or work in front of a TV, because you don’t need to count stitches or be too concentrated on the pattern. If you want, you use this square pattern for a Join-As-You-Go Iris Granny Square blanket.

The Yarn I Used for My Blanket
For my blanket, I chose to use a self-striping yarn. I wanted to give this simple granny square blanket another dimension with the change of colors as the rounds grow.
The yarn I used for my granny square baby blanket is Caron Cotton Cakes Yarn in Sunset Dreams shade. It was just enough to make a perfectly sized baby blanket, and I love how the different colors are showing so well in each round.
