The Iris Triangle Shawl pattern is an easy crochet triangle shawl pattern. If you are looking for a fun and relaxing crochet shawl pattern, you are in the right place!
This shawl uses mostly the Iris stitch and some puff stitch to add texture. The pattern is easy and relaxing with a repetitive section, so you can work the shawl as big as you’d like.

How Do You Crochet a Simple Triangle Shawl?
A simple triangle shawl has a simple construction, and usually will start from the middle top and will be increased in the middle and sides of the triangle.
If you want to try a simple and easy crochet triangle shawl pattern, you should use double crochet stitches. You will find different patterns, using different stitches such as a simple double crochet triangle shawl, a triangle shawl using a granny stitch, or a V stitch.
If you want your shawl to work up quickly, choose a pattern that uses mostly double crochet stitches.

About the Iris Triangle Shawl Design – an Easy Crochet Triangle Shawl
Iris stitch is one of my favorite stitches, it’s a double V stitch, and it has a beautiful texture and works up quickly. I also used the Iris Stitch in a Square in my recent Iris Cocoon Shrug pattern.
This triangle shawl pattern is worked from the top middle out, using the iris stitch, and is increased in the middle and the sides of the shawl. To add some texture to this shawl, we have a V puff stitches row every 11 rows.
The shawl can be worked as big as you would like, by keep repeating the repetition section.
What Type Of Yarn Is Best For Shawls?
For my shawl, I used Scheepjes Whirl which is a Fingering (#1) weight yarn, so if you are looking for Scheepjes Whirl shawl patterns, this one is for you! I enjoyed working with this beautiful and soft yarn, it’s made of 60% cotton and 40% acrylic.
You can use any yarn you’d like, I recommend using Fingering (#1) or Sport (#2) weight yarns, to keep the texture showing.

Materials
โ 3.5 mm / E crochet hook (I like this hook).
โ Fingering (#1) weight yarn (I used Scheepjes Whirl in Blackcurrant Squeeze Me)
Total amount of yarn needed:
225gr/1,000m/1,094yds
โ 1 Stitch marker
Gauge (in pattern) – Working rows 1-4 will result in a 4โ (10 cm) wide triangle.
Finished Size – 68×26″ (172.7x66cm)
Abbreviations (US)
ch – chain
dc – double crochet
DD-V – doubled DV stitch: [2dc, ch1, 2dc, ch1, 2dc] in same stitch
D-V – double V stitch: [2dc, ch1, 2dc] in same stitch
PM – place marker
puff – (yo, insert hook into next st, yo and pull up a loop) x 4 times working into same st, yo and pull through 8 loops, yo again and pull through 2 remaining loops.
sp – space
ss – slip stitch
V-puff – [1puff, ch1, 1puff] in same stitch.
How to crochet the Puff stitch
(yo, insert hook into next st, yo and pull up a loop) x 4 times working into same st, yo and pull through 8 loops, yo again and pull through 2 remaining loops.
Notes
- Ch3 at the beginning of the row counts as 1dc.
- Ch1 does not count as a stitch.
- There is a stitch count table after the written instructions.
- You can make the shawl as big as youโd like by working the repetitions.

- How to keep track of the pattern:
– Thereโs a stitch count table at the end of the pattern.
– DD-V’s are worked at the beginning and the end of the row, every other row.

Ch3 (counts as 1dc here and throughout), [1dc, ch1, 2dc] in same 1st dc, skip next dc, DD-V in next ch-1 sp, skip next dc, D-V in top of ch-3, turn. (2 D-V, 1 DD-V)
Row 3:
Ch1, skip 1st dc, 1ss in next dc and into ch-1 sp, ch3, [1dc, ch1, D-V] in same ch-1 sp, skip next 4 dc, D-V in 1st ch-1 sp of center DD-V, PM between last and next dc (between the 2 D-Vโs worked into the DD-V), skip next 2 dc, D-V in 2nd ch-1 sp of center DD-V, skip next 4 dc, DD-V in next ch-1 sp, turn. I might be reading this wrong, but the instructions seem to go from row 8 to row 11. I donโt see instructions for rows 9 and 10. Is there something that I am missing?

Yes, you should repeat rows 5-16 as much as you’d like, and then finish with working rows 5-9.
