The Seashore Bliss crochet Placemat pattern is an easy and mindless crochet pattern.
Using the Mini Bean stitch worked in a diagonal creating a modern crochet placemat pattern with a woven-like look. You can use 2 colors as the pattern suggests, or just one color.

C2C Crochet Placemats Pattern Using Mini Bean Stitch – A Modern Crochet Placemat Pattern
I love using the corner to corner method whenever I can. When I came up with the C2C Mini Bean stitch, one of my testers suggested that it would be a good stitch for a placemat, and she was so right!
When the stitch is worked diagonally, the Mini Bean stitch creates a woven look that doesn’t look crocheted at first glance.
I love how this C2C different stitch creates a modern crochet placemat pattern. You can choose any colors you like to combine for your placemat.
What Is The Best Crochet Stitch For Placemats?
The answer to this question depends on your personal preference, but you would also want to consider some of the characteristics of the stitch you are using.
The stitch you choose should be dense enough to protect your table and also provide a sturdy surface for the plates and utensils.
You can use textured stitches such as the Suzette Stitch and the Spider Stitch, or simple ones like single crochet or half double crochet. Another perfect technique for placemats is the Mosaic Crochet, it creates a thick fabric, I used it in my Bohemian Mosaic Placemat.
What Yarn Is Best For Crochet Placemats?
I prefer to make crochet placemats with cotton yarn. When I’m making home decor items that are used a lot, I would always use 100% cotton yarn, because cotton is a durable and strong fiber, that will last for many years.
For my Seashore Bliss Placemat, I used Knit Picks – Dishie yarn, which is one of my very favorite cotton yarns to use when I’m making home decor items.
I used the Dishie yarn in my Paved Diamonds Rug which is placed next to my bed, and also for the Lobelia Basket and Floral Tote Bag.

Notes
- To make it easier to find the ch3 / ch2 spaces at the end of the row, place a stitch marker when you ch3/ch2 at the beginning of each row.
- How to change the size of your placemat: continue increasing until the desired width, then decrease on one side until your desired length, and then decrease on both sides.
- It is recommended to block your work when done to obtain the square rectangle shape.
- When changing color: at the last stitch of the row, before changing color, start the stitch as normal, when you pull the yarn through the 2 loops to finish the stitch, wrap the new color around the hook and pull through. Cut the yarn and weave in the ends.
