Is 100% cotton good for crochet?

Cotton yarn is a great sustainable choice for making home decor items, accessories, and wearable crochet items that are light and breathable. You can find many ideas for crochet patterns using cotton yarn.

There are different types of cotton yarns, some are sturdy and some are softer, depending on the process the cotton goes through, and whether it’s a cotton blend or 100% cotton. But you can find a suitable cotton yarn for any type of project.

Can you crochet a blanket with 100% cotton yarn?

Certainly! Selecting the right yarn for a big project such as a blanket is crucial. Opting for 100% cotton yarn is a great sustainable choice, and also creates a softer blanket.

Since cotton is a natural fiber, it makes it an excellent option for those with sensitivities to synthetic materials, ensuring a gentle touch against the skin.

I love using 100% cotton or cotton blend when I’m making baby blankets. When my daughter was born, I made her this easy baby blanket, with Cottonsoft DK by King Cole yarn.

What Can You Crochet with 100% Cotton Yarn?

Basically, everything! But 100% cotton yarn is mostly used for home decor and accessories:

Dishcloths
Washcloths
Bags
Rugs
Pillow Covers
Shawls
Pot holders
Mandalas
Coasters
Placemats
